Ich wollte dieses Buch wirklich lieben, aber die Harmonie zwischen uns stimmte einfach nicht. Die Hauptperson ist ein Dienstmädchen, die in einer nahen Zukunft lebt, in welcher die Rechte von Frauen stark begrenzt sind. Die einst eigenständige Frau mit Ehemann, Kind und Job hat durch das System alles verloren und wird im Hause des Kommandants und seiner Frau nur noch für ihre Eierstöcke wertgeschätzt. Der Grund, warum ich das Buch nicht so mochte ist, dass mir der Schreibstil nicht zugesagt hat und es einfach schwer war in den Lesefluss zu kommen. Auch wenn es ein sehr ernst zu nehmendes und gesellschaftskritisches Thema ist, hat es mich einfach nicht gepackt. Dennoch möchte ich jeden ermutigen, jedem Buch eine Chance zu geben, auch wenn die Review nicht positiv ausfällt.

I really wanted to love this book, but our harmony just wasn't right. The main character is a maid who lives in a near-future where women's rights are very limited. The once-independent woman with husband, child and job has lost everything through the system and is now only valued for her ovaries in the house of the commander and his wife. The reason why I did not like the book much is that the writing style did not suit me and it was just hard to get into the flow of reading. Even though it is a very serious and socio-critical topic, it just didn't grab me. Nevertheless, I would like to encourage everyone to give every book a chance, even if the review isn´t positive.
Was bedeutet Freiheit in einem Überwachungsstaat und was hat es mit unserer heutigen Zeit zutun? Wie lange dieses Buch bereits auf meiner Liste steht kann ich euch schon gar nicht mehr sagen. Als ich jedoch im Buchladen vor einem wunderschönen Cover stand, konnte ich natürlich nicht widerstehen und bin so froh, es endlich gelesen zu haben. George Orwell's satirisches und futuristisches Werk über Individualismus in einer totalitären bürokratischen Welt ist erschreckend aktuell (obwohl es im Jahr 1949 veröffentlicht wurde) und regt zum Nachdenken an. Meiner Meinung nach einer der wichtigsten Romane unserer Zeit!

What does freedom mean in a surveillance state and what does it have to do with our times? How long this book has been on my list I can't tell you anymore. But when I was standing in front of a beautiful cover in the bookstore, I couldn't resist and I'm so happy to have finally read it. George Orwell's satirical and futuristic work about individualism in a totalitarian bureaucratic world is frighteningly up to date (although it was published in 1949) and makes one think. In my opinion one of the most important novels of our time!

Die Geschichte handelt von der wunderschönen Reise in die geheimnisvolle dunkle Stadt namens Noctaris, der man nur im Traum begegnet. Lasst mich nur eines sagen: Wow wow wow! Das Ende war wirklich so spannend, dass ich es nachts noch beenden musste und es regelrecht verschlungen habe. Außerdem fand ich es sehr bemerkenswert, wie die beiden Autorinnen unter dem Pseudonym Rose Snow eine solch einzigartige Traumwelt erschaffen haben, die einen so in ihren Bann zieht und nicht mehr loslässt. Gerne wäre ich manchmal Harper...Insbesondere der Schreibstil (trotz zweier Autorinnen) ist so einheitlich und wunderschön geschrieben, was meines Erachtens nicht ohne changing POV (point of view) einfach und erst recht nicht selbstverständlich ist.

The story is about the wonderful journey to the mysterious dark city of Noctaris, which you only encounter in your dreams. Let me just say one thing: Incubi, wow wow wow! The ending was really so exciting that I had to finish it at night and really gobbled it up. I also found it very remarkable how the two authors, under the pseudonym Rose Snow, created such a unique dream world that so captivates you and does not let go. I would love to be Harper sometimes...Especially the writing style (despite two authors) is so uniform and beautifully written, which in my opinion is not easy without changing POV (point of view) and even more not self-evident.
It's about the relationships we form here. Friendships, love, and support while we're all trying to survive and thrive in a world that often doesn't feel like it was made for us. - Sunil
Nach langer Wartezeit konnte ich nun endlich den neuen Roman meiner liebsten Autorin lesen. Sie spricht mir immer so aus der Seele, weshalb mir wirklich bisher jedes Buch von ihr gefallen hat (was nicht oft vorkommt). Loveless spricht über die Themen Identität und Sexualität (Asexual/Aromantical). Im Gegensatz zu anderen Romanen merkt man wirklich, wie sehr sich Alice mit dem Thema Sexualität und Diversität beschäftigt hat, was meiner Meinung nach wirklich ein unglaublicher Fortschritt in puncto Stereotypen in Büchern ist. Die Hauptperson Georgia ist obsessed mit Fanfictions und Romantik, startet gerade einen neuen Lebensabschnitt an der Uni und glaubt fest daran irgendwann ihren significant other (Freund) zu finden. Ganz automatisch beginnt man beim Lesen die eigene Identität/Sexualität zu hinterfragen und lernt gleichzeitig mehr über die Transgender/ LGBTQ+ Community. Auch ich würde nicht behauptend dass mir alle Begriffe bekannt sind, aber es ist wirklich ein Thema, dem ich mein Interesse schenke und über das ich mich gerne weitere informieren möchte. Glücklicherweise wird es von der Gesellschaft mehr und mehr akzeptiert. Dennoch gibt es noch viele Vorurteile und Wissenslücken, an denen wir weiter arbeiten müssen, weshalb ich mich umso mehr freue, wenn Autoren sich damit beschäftigen. Und auch wenn man sich in gewisser Weise angreifbar macht, ist es besser als zu schweigen.

After a long wait I could finally read the new novel of my favorite author. She always speaks from my heart, which is why I really liked every book of hers (which is not often the case). Loveless talks about identity and sexuality (Asexual/Aromantical). Unlike other novels, you can really see how much Alice has been involved with the subject of sexuality and diversity, which I think is really an incredible advance in terms of stereotypes in books. The main character Georgia is obsessed with fanfictions and romance, is just starting a new phase of her life at university and strongly believes in finding her significant other (boyfriend) at some point. While reading, you automatically start to question your own identity/sexuality and learn more about the transgender/ LGBTQ+ community. I wouldn't say that I know all the terms, but it's really a topic I'm interested in and would like to learn more about. Fortunately it is more and more accepted by the society. Nevertheless, there are still many prejudices and gaps in knowledge that need to be worked on further, so I am all the more pleased when authors deal with it. And even if you make yourself vulnerable, it's better than remaining silent.

Dieses wunderschöne Buch über Fandom habe ich auf Empfehlung einer Freundin gelesen, da es zu ihren liebsten Romanen gehört. Und was soll ich sagen? Ich wurde definitiv nicht enttäuscht. Um nicht zu viel von der Geschichte wegzunehmen, gebe ich euch lediglich den Klappentext (der das Buch nicht besser beschreiben könnte) und spreche eher über die kleinen Details, die es für mich als Leser besonders gemacht haben.

I read this wonderful book about fandom on the recommendation of a friend, because it is one of her favorite novels. And what can I say? I was definitely not disappointed. Not to take too much of the story away, I'll just give you the blurb (which couldn't describe the book any better) and talk more about the little details that made it special to me as a reader.

Ehrlich gesagt wollte ich diesen klassischen Roman schon jahrelang lesen, habe es aber aus verschiedenen Gründen (Schule, Arbeit, perfektes Cover und Zeitpunkt) hinausgezögert. Mit Corona und der gewonnenen Zeit beschloss ich schließlich, einfach die E-Book-Version zu lesen und zu sehen, wie es ist. Der Schreibstil ist etwas, woran man sich wirklich gewöhnen muss, aber wenn man das getan hat, fühlt es sich an, als würde man in diese schöne und manchmal auch nicht so schöne Welt eintauchen, in der es um Gesellschaft, hohe Standards, Stolz und Vorurteile geht. Natürlich bewundere ich Elizabeth und Darcy wirklich, nicht nur wegen ihrer einzigartigen Persönlichkeiten und ihrer tiefen Liebe füreinander, sondern auch dafür, dass sie aufstehen und nicht versuchen, in eine bestimmte Box zu passen oder zu tun, was die Gesellschaft und Familie von einem erwartet.

Honestly wanted to read this classic novel for years and procrastinated for various reasons (school, work, perfect cover and timing). With Corona and the gained time, I finally decided to just read the E-Book version and see how it goes. The writing style is something, you really have to get used to, but when you do, it feels like diving into this beautiful and sometimes not-so-beautiful world about society, high standards, pride and prejudice. Of course, I really admire Elizabeth and Darcy for not only their unique personalities and deep love for each other, but also for standing up and not trying to fit into a certain box or do, what society and family expects you to do.

Neben der Tatsache, dass ich dieses Buch mit buchstäblich allen meinen Freunden und meiner Familie teilen werde, sodass sie meine Persönlichkeit (INFJ/Introvert) verstehen können, hat der Autor eine wunderschöne Art und Weise, diverse Perspektiven und Erfahrungen zu beschreiben. Das ist nicht unbedingt etwas, was jedem gefällt, aber für mich sind es die kleinen Details, wie z.B. die beschriebene Atmosphäre als sie bestimmte intro- und extrovertierte Menschen (also praktisch beide Persönlichkeitstypen) interviewte, die eine tiefere und detaillierte Einsicht in das Thema liefern.

Besides the fact that I will share this book with literally all my friends and family to understand my personality (INFJ/Introvert), the author has a beautiful way of describing different perspectives and experiences. It isn't necessarily something everyone enjoys but for me the little details, like how the atmosphere was when she interviewed certain intro-and extroverts (so practically both personality types) provided a deeper and detailed insight into the topic
Es sind immer die Bücher, mit denen du dich in fast jedem einzelnen Wort wiederfinden kannst, die dich bewegen und im Gedächtnis bleiben. Ganz genau so ging es mir mit der Geschichte von Kiko Himura. Auch wenn ich nicht Halb-Japanisch bin und mit derartigen Rassismus zu kämpfen habe, kann ich sie in so vielen Punkten verstehen.
Insbesondere kleine Details wie "what i want to say/ what i actually say" oder eine kurze Beschreibung eines Sketches oder Zeichnung am Ende jedes Kapitels, die ihre Gefühle zum jeweiligen Zeitpunkt nicht besser auf den Punkt bringen könnte, haben mir unglaublich gut gefallen und das Buch von vielen anderen abgesetzt.

It's always the books with which you can find yourself in almost every single word that move you and remain in your memory. It was exactly the same with the story of Kiko Himura. Even though I am not half-Japanese and have to fight such racism, I can understand it in so many ways.
Especially small details like "what i want to say/ what i actually say" or a short description of a sketch or drawing at the end of each chapter, which couldn't better express her feelings at that particular moment, made the book stand out from many others.

In dem Buch geht es darum, das Bewusstsein für Schusswaffengewalt an amerikanischen Schulen zu schärfen und sich an die Überlebenden und ihre Familien (bzw. die Auswirkungen solcher schrecklichen Ereignisse im Nachhinein) in den Schulen, die Trauer und die mentale Gesundheit zu erinnern.
Zu Beginn war ich etwas überrascht, wie viele Ausdrücke die Autorin verwendet. Nachdem man sich aber eingelesen hat, lernt man zu verstehen, wie essentiell diese Form der Sprache die Persönlichkeit und inneren ungefilterten Gefühle zum Vorschein bringt und einfach zur Geschichte gehört. Nebensächlich aber doch von hohem Wert für mich ist die wunderschöne Cover-Illustration und Schrift, die mich überhaupt auf das Buch aufmerksam gemacht hat. Wirklich ein sehr aktuelles Buch, das jeder Lesen kann.

The book is about raising awareness about gun violence in American schools and to remember survivors and their families/ the effects of such horrific events afterward) in schools, grief, and mental health.
In the beginning, I was a little surprised at how many expressions the author uses. But after getting into the book, one learns to understand how essential this form of language is to bring out the personality and inner unfiltered feelings, that simply belong to the story. A minor but very valuable aspect for me is the beautiful cover illustration and writing that made me aware of the book in the first place. Really a very up-to-date book that anyone can read.
